In Post #3 on the subject of the Annascaul Tidy Towns Action Group multi year plan we want to cover the “Streetscape and Public Places” category. As part of our previous work in this category we have redecorated the exterior of Dan Foley’s pub, undertaken the painting and restoration of a number of Village water pumps and will shortly be completing work on an historical information sign in front of the Church of Ireland site. We had previously undertaken extensive work on this site and brought about a plaque commemorating the Protestant parishioners buried there. A brochure was also produced and is available at Public Libraries locally.
The Committee and supporters of Annascaul Community Playground have been working hard to bring the scheme to fruition and ATTAG intend to support the Committee where possible which may include helping to keep it neat and tidy when finished. We are fortunate to have the services of Community workers and they work to a schedule organised by the ATTAG Committee which includes keeping the Village roads and verges tidy, making repairs to stonework and walls, decorating and so on.
Street trees are an awkward challenge with such a narrow Main Street but we are currently investigating the addition of some native trees in the Village and surroundings. Most Monday evenings the Committee and other volunteers can be seen scraping away at the weeds and trying to keep the Village a place to be proud of !! That concludes Post #3 and as always if you have feedback or comments then we’d be happy to listen.
Thanks for your support
